YOU KNOW? Help Your Child Reap the Benefits of Reading Children who are read to regularly for several months make great
strides in reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. Re-reading books that children like not only reinforces
vocabulary but builds a love for books. Watching many hours of television has a negative relationship
to reading performance. 87 percent of students who read for fun once a month or more
perform at Proficient level, while students who hardly ever
read for fun perform at the Basic level. The ability to read and understand complicated information is
important to a child’s success in college. Reading is considered in the first section of the No Child Left
