April/May 2008
To Rochambeau parents/guardians:
As all of you are aware, Connecticut Mastery Testing took place over the first two weeks of March with makeup testing being completed through the last week of March. I would like to thank the students, staff, and parents for their efforts during this stressful testing time. I am looking forward to the summer months when we receive our testing results that will highlight our strengths as well as assist us in determining focused areas in need of improvement.
I am always amazed with how quickly each school year goes by. We are now beginning to plan many of the exciting end of the year activities for our students. I would recommend checking our website regularly as information about upcoming activities will be posted and updated on a regular basis.
All eighth grade students will have an opportunity to apply for several graduation awards that focus on scholarship, school leadership and community service. The application process was explained to students on March 31st during their English classes. The application itself is a one page essay written by the student demonstrating the candidacy for the awards. The application deadline for the graduation awards is Friday, April 11th. This is an exciting process that I hope you will encourage your child/children to participate in. For your convenience, the details of the awards and application process are posted on our website.
During the week of May 6th through the 9th, all seventh grade students will be assessed via the Orleans Hanna and Computation Exam. These two math assessments are part of the criteria used to determine each student’s math placement in eighth grade. More information specific to this process will be included in the third marking period report card distribution on Friday, April 25th.
On a final note, I am very pleased with Rochambeau faculty members learning and use of our new student information program called PowerSchool. As a result, fourth quarter progress reports will look different from the past as they will come directly from the teacher’s grade book within the PowerSchool program. Fourth quarter progress reports are scheduled to go home with students on May 14th, 2008.
As usual, thank you for your support. Feel free to contact the middle school office with any questions you may have.
With regards,
Mr. Salutari
