In 6th Grade Tech Ed, the students design, build, and test trusses. Trusses are like the side of a bridge.

First, students go on West Point Bridge Designer to design the trusses.
To download Bridge Designer, go to the Tech Ed Links.

After the students build their trusses out of sticks of wood, they test them in the device shown above by placing rocks in a bucket, supported by the truss.

In 7th Grade Tech Ed, the students create cars out of mouse traps. They also create letter blocks.

Students assemble/run the cars that are powered by the mouse traps that also make much of the frame. Throughout this project, various adjustments are made to the cars to see how their performance is affected.

Students also design letter blocks using a program called Auto CAD (AUTOmated Computer Aided Design) They then cut them out using drill presses and band saws.

In 8th Grade Tech Ed, students create cars powered by pressurized Carbon Dioxide. They also produce clocks in a mass production project.

Students first design their cars using Auto CAD. After printing out the design, students build and paint their custom built cars. They also build stands for their cars. When all the construction is completed, the cars race against each other and the Golden Wheel Award is given to the fastest car.

Now construction on the clocks begins. Each student works on a different part of the clock, whether cutting tops, or drilling holes in the fronts. After all the parts are completed, students pick one of each and assemble it. At the end, the clock mechanism is installed and you have a working clock.
