REGION 15 BOARD OF EDUCATION NAMES NEW POMPERAUG HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

After what Region 15 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank Sippy called an “exhaustive but enlightening process,” Ms. Lorrie Rodrigue has been named the new Principal at Pomperaug High School, starting July 1, 2008. The Pomperaug Regional School District 15 Board of Education unanimously appointed the Ms. Rodrigue to replace Mr. James Agostine who left the District in January to serve as the Region 16 Superintendent of Schools.

Ms. Rodrigue has more than 18 years of experience in teaching and administration throughout the State of Connecticut.

For the past three years, Ms. Rodrigue has served as Principal at Shepaug Valley Middle-High School in Washington, Connecticut. There, she developed a school improvement plan, provided professional development, negotiated a new school schedule, and fostered leadership opportunities for students.

Prior to working in Region 12, Ms. Rodrigue worked for 13 years in the Newtown Public School System as the high school’s Assistant Principal and as an English teacher at the high school and middle school. Among her many honors and awards during her tenure in Newtown, she was named Teacher of the Year in 1996.

Members of the Region 15 Board of Education had nothing but praise for Ms. Rodrigue at their March 24th meeting. The new principal will officially be introduced to the Board of Education at their April 9th meeting.

“I believe she will add much to the high school and we certainly look forward to her arrival,” said Ms. Pat Perry, the Board of Education’s Personnel, Policies, and Curriculum chairperson.

“The search committee did a fine job at finding this candidate,” added Board member Ms. Sharon Elias.

While she will officially start at PHS in July, in the interim Ms. Rodrigue will be involved in the search process for both the PHS Assistant Principal as well as the new Director of Guidance.

Ms. Rodrigue has a Master’s degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from Fairfield University and a Sixth-Year Certificate in Administration and Supervision from Sacred Heart University. Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree in education at Northcentral University, with a target completion date of 2011.

“Nothing is more rewarding to me than cultivating school environments that inspire in students a love of learning and the ability to construct meaning from their experiences. This is the heart of school leadership and what I have aspired to achieve throughout my career,” said Ms. Rodrigue.
