Senior Month-to-Month Calendar

August-September

• Make appointment with counselor

• Register early for SAT I/SAT II

• Finalize college list

• Reduce preliminary list of colleges to a manageable number

• Sign up for college representative visits to PHS

• Carefully consider your responsibilities if applying for Early Decision or Early Action

• Write/call/email for catalogs/viewbooks and applications

• Begin drafts of essays

• Get off to a good start academically

• Complete college visits/interviews

• Ask teachers for recommendations

October

• Take SAT I/SAT II

• Work on college essays

• Review transcript with counselor

• Complete college visits and interviews (remember: Thank You letters)

• Check for local College Fairs and visits

• Begin filling out applications

• If you apply Early Decision, be aware of deadlines

• Check for scholarships on the board in the Career Center, WTCH or PHS web page under Guicdance (www.Region15.org)

November

• Check all application deadlines!!!

• Take SAT I/SAT II

• Send early

• Keep organized and up-to-date

• Research sources of private, outside scholarships throughout the year

• Submit CSS profile

• Attending Financial Aid Meeting with parents

December

• Take SAT I/SAT II

• Check all application deadlines!!

• Talk with graduates who are home from college

• Submit applications with process sheet, all necessary forms and application fees to guidance for processing and posting

• Pick up FAFSA application in Guidance Office to submit after January 1

January

• Take SAT I/SAT II

• File FAFSA or other appropriate forms after January 1

• Finish college application and submit to Guidance

• Continue checking for scholarships in the Career Center. Watch deadlines

• Check with your references to be sure they have sent your recommendation

February

• Check/apply for private outside scholarships

• Have you sent all necessary forms and applications for financial aid?

• Check deadlines for AP tests

March

• Explore the colleges to which you have applied as thoroughly as possible

• Register for AP exam

• Attend local scholarship assembly

• Apply for local scholarships

April

• Hand in local scholarship application

• Review college responses and aid offer with parents and counselor

• Make a final decision--send deposit by May 1

• You should have received your FAFSA acknowledgement/Student Aid Report (SAR)

• Notify references of your choice and thank them for their efforts

• Inform your counselor of college replies

• Visit college of your choice before final decision

• Send original and signed SAR to your chosen college

• Notify colleges that you have decided not to attend

• Be sure guidance secretary has your final choice so that transcript can be forwarded

• Complete the senior survey
