Goal 1: Skills for Learning
The student will:
The student acquires the attitudes, knowledge, aptitudes, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school.
Grade 8
1. Review organizational and study skills systems and name additional resources to help improve study skills.
Goal 2: School Success
The student employs strategies to achieve success in school.
The student will:
Grade 8
1. Review 9th grade course selections in light of high school graduation requirements.
Grade 9
1. Be able to name and locate his/her counselor as well as other school personnel.
2. Be aware of graduation requirements, high school course credit, attendance policy, and school rules.
3. Be able to identify the differences in school environment between middle and high school.
4. Seek information and support from faculty, staff, family and peers that positively influences academic achievement.
Grade 10
1. Become knowledgeable about the use of "Expan" software.
2. Complete a personal data inventory.
3. Utilize "Expan" software to perform a college search.
4. Identify postsecondary options consistent with interests, achievements, aptitudes and abilities.
Goal 3: Academics to Life Success
The student understands the relationship of academics to the world of work and to life at home and in the community.
The student will:
Grade 10
1. Be aware of similarities and differences of school environment and the world of work.
Grade 11
1. Seek and undertake experiences within the school and the community that enhance coursework.
2. Identify postsecondary options consistent with interests, achievements, aptitudes and abilities.
3. Demonstrate the relationship between careers and school subjects.
Goal 4: Investigate Careers
The student acquires the skills to investigate the world of work in relation to knowledge of self and to make career choices.
The student will:
Grade 9
1. Be aware of and use career resources available at the high school and in the Career Resource Center.
2. Be encouraged to pursue hobbies and areas of extracurricular interests.
Grade 11
1. Complete a career interest survey.
2. Become educated in ways to make career planning decisions. Consider attendance at career speakers and explore shadowing and internship opportunities in the career center.
Goal 5: Career Success
Students will employ strategies to achieve future career success and satisfaction.
The student will:
Grade 10
1. Recognize how changing economic and societal needs influence employment trends and job opportunities.
Grade 12
1. Identify and complete required steps toward transition from high school to postsecondary training.
