Philosophy: The World Language department affirms and supports the belief that language and communication is at the heart of the human experience. All individuals can be successful learners of languages and cultures if provided programs and opportunities that match their instructional approach to their personal needs. 

Curriculum Review Status: The World Language curriculum is in Phase One of its Development Stage in 2009-10. The Second Phase of its Development will occur in 2010-11.

Pomperaug High School Language Honor Societies
 

PHS French Honor Society Criteria:
1.  You need to have an average of 90 at the end of French II or 90 in the second semester of French III.
2.   Your grades in your other subjects must be B or higher with the exception of honors courses; C+ is acceptable.
3.   You must continue the study of French into the next level and maintain a B average in French.
4.   You must agree to attend meetings and to participate in at least 3 activities. The induction will take place in September.

PHS Spanish Honor Society Criteria:
1.  You must be a current Sophomore or Junior.
2.  You must receive an A in Spanish for 3 consecutive semesters at PHS.
3.  All grades in other classes must be no lower than a C+ (for the 3rd semester).
4.  You will be invited to join in May and the formal induction is in the following September.
5.  Once in, you will be expected to be an active member and must participate in service activities, fundraisers and 5-6 meetings per year.
6.  You must continue to study Spanish and must maintain a B or higher.
7.  You must be committed to serving others in the community and abroad.
8.  You must have a positive attitude.
