The kindergarten program at GES is multi-faceted. We encourage development of the total child.

Since each child is unique, he or she will develop at a different rate than every other child. There are many aspects to the kindergarten program. Our language program combines guided reading, genuine literature, and phonemic awareness.

Writing is taught through modeling, mini-lessons, and the use of journals. Our math program consists of using manipulatives that provide sensory experiences in classifying, comparing, patterning, graphing, and counting. In addition, the curriculum includes fine motor, auditory, and gross motor skills. Many of the activities take place in small groups.

As you can see, the children are exposed to a great variety of experiences and activities. Kindergarten is an exciting time.

Social Studies:

The Region 15 social studies program is built around a progressive understanding of the pervasive and enduring historical, political, geographical, economic and social issues of our world. The curriculum balances and spirals the learning of concepts, skills, and developmentally appropriate content.  Instruction includes thought provoking activities, hands-on experience, and performance-based assessments using a variety of resources. The social studies program develops’ students appreciation, tolerance and respect for other cultures.

In Kindergarten the students will investigate holidays and celebrations of the United States. Children will explore the different celebrations and understand that all cultures around the world have holidays, customs, and traditions. They will understand that these holidays and customs are based on rich history and tradition passed down from one generation to the next. The Kindergarteners will discover that Americans are proud of their country and celebrate in many ways. Next Kindergarteners will embark on a journey of self-discovery where they learn that everyone is special and unique. Kindergarteners will learn what makes them different and special. Continuing with this theme children will investigate wants and needs of individuals. They will also explore citizenship, how to be a good citizen, and why it is important to be a good citizen.
