Reading Incentive 2012

The Gainfield Elementary School reading incentive program is an annual program at GES, coordinated by Mrs. Heather Messina, GES Library Media Specialist and Mrs. Stephanie Coxon, Reading Consultant.  This year our theme is centered around the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.   (Click here for a copy of the Reading Incentive letter sent home.)

 Students are treated to a skit performed by our staff highlighting the history of Lady Liberty.  They are then challenged to read as much as they can to help Liberty burn bright.  This year students in each grade level with be competing against the GES staff to see who can read the most minutes.  Good luck kids...we love to read!

Each Friday, students bring home a reading slip and record the minutes they read outside of school daily. Reading slips are returned to school on the following Friday.  Students can earn minutes by reading to family members, listening to stories, or reading silently.     

You can follow the progress of the Grade Level Teams and the GES Staff on the bulletin board as you enter our building.  Teams will earn stacks of books to make their way up Lady Liberty.  Our school goal is to read 600,000 minutes.  

WE REACHED OUR GOAL!  GES students and staff read 635, 105 minutes.  On Friday, May 4, 2012, we will celebrate with inflatables!  Students will have a chance to bounce on 4 inflatables during recess, an extra recess, and after school with their families until 7:00.
