Middlebury Elementary School

MES Celebrations began years ago when an administrator, music teacher, and physical education teacher visited The Wolcott School in West Hartford to observe the Higher Order Thinking program. 

A centerpiece of this model is the grade-level town meetings where students share their interdisciplinary connections through their art, writing, music, and physical education as well as their content areas. 

The MES town meetings called "Celebrations" have focused on a variety of rich themes and concepts over the years. "Celebrations" are presented in two formats. Our K-2 students present a classroom "Celebrations". This intimate setting provides a comfortable place for our younger students to share their amazing work with parents and guests. Our grades 3-5 students present a parent and school-wide performance of their "Celebrations" in our gym.

This work under the direction of Mr. Chris Turecek and classroom teachers has proven to be highly authentic and engaging for both students and teachers.  Students have proven to be poised and confident as they present their work individually and in groups for their MES peers, faculty and parents.
