Our beliefs about children and their education can best be shared through our vision statement:

At Middlebury Elementary School, we believe that all children can and do learn.  To make this vision a reality, we have developed a balanced perspective on curriculum, instruction, and assessment.  First, we believe that every child can and should encounter challenging curriculum at high standards of performance.  At the same time, we believe that learning must also be personalized and reflect the individual needs of each learner.  To that end, we see each child as unique, bringing a special set of previous experiences to each new learning opportunity.

For our school, this balanced vision is contextualized within a caring and nurturing learning environment.  We view ourselves as an educational family in which all members – students, teachers, parents, administration, support staff, and the community – collaborate and learn together.  Within this intentionally supportive environment, we encourage our children and each other to be intellectually curious knowledge seekers.  We also believe that among the most important learning is that connected with interpersonal and intrapersonal competencies.  As a result, we place high value on emotional and physical safety, respect and empathy toward others, personal responsibility, learning independently and with others, positive decision-making, acceptance of differences in abilities and backgrounds, community service, and celebrating the achievements of all members of our educational family.

Should you have any questions about our school or our programming, please do not hesitate to contact me via telephone at 203-758-2401 or by email at jzamary@region15.org.
