Message From the Assistant Principal

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Memorial and thank you for visiting my page!  I have the privilege of working with many dedicated and talented teachers and support staff. Our students enjoy a structured yet challenging academic environment, and our parents and PTO continue to provide valuable and appreciated support for all of us here at MMS.

 Research has clearly indicated that high-achieving schools enjoy a positive and respectful climate. A school’s climate is determined primarily by how students see the staff interact not just with students, but also with each other. Our staff works very hard to model appropriate and expected behaviors. We have an exceptional climate here at MMS, to the point where most students do not even feel the need to lock their lockers!

As is true at many middle schools, the Assistant Principal is in charge not only of discipline, but the overall safety and well-being of all students. Over the past several years, I have strived to create an environment where students and staff will report unacceptable or mean behaviors that they may observe. We have a section of this website that allows both students and parents to send me reports of bullying or other unacceptable behaviors. Please remember that such reports need to be filed within a 48 hour time-frame from when the alleged incident happened. Such reporting is generally highly confidential.

You should also know that I spend a great deal of time conducting thorough investigations and interviews so that all students are treated fairly.  My resolution emphasis is not on punishing offending students, but on correcting their unacceptable behaviors through a variety of intervention strategies. I have literally worked with thousands of students over the span of my 30-plus year career as both science teacher and administrator!
