Stay on Track Program
Region 15's "Stay on Track" program is a drug and alcohol awareness and life skills program for Grades 6 and 7, taught by members of the U.S. Army National Guard. The program is designed to increase students' knowledge, and to help develop drug-free attitudes in students. In 2012, "Stay on Track" will be fully integrated with grades 6-8 involved in the program.
The program is free and serves over 4,000 students in Connecticut.
"Stay on Track" is an educational program that not only helps fight the war on drugs, but helps youngsters make the proper decisions in life," said Sargeant First Class Dave Carello. "The lessons we teach deal with health education, good decision making, goal setting, communication and interpersonal skills, and the influence of the media on this age group."
Middle School principals, Mr. Anthony Salutari (RMS) and Dr. John Sieller (MMS) see the program as an opportunity to provide students with positive health-related instruction.
"The addition of the National Guard 'Stay on Track' program integrates lessons and activities focused on drug prevention and making good decisions with our existing Physical Education program. We are excited that this is offered to the sixth and seventh graders at both middle schools," said Mr. Salutari.
