Developmental Guidance Program
Using Region 15’s award winning guidance curriculum, the emphasis of the PES counseling program is on maximizing the potential of all students through a comprehensive developmental approach. It is one that involves all of the students, through individual and small group counseling, as well as a school counseling curriculum. Counseling topics vary depending on the need. They may include, but are not limited to: self-esteem, anger management, social skills, goal setting, problem solving, and divorce.
The developmental counseling curriculum lessons are presented in every classroom. This part of the program is very proactive. It gives the children information to not only deal with or solve the problems that arise, but also prevent future problems. The program at PES offers skills for self-awareness and other tools to help prepare students for goal setting, decision making, and career exploration. We are here to address student and staff needs.
The counseling program also offers a program called the Pomperaug Pals. This is part of Region 15’s Pomperaug Guidance Association. The Pals are a group of fifth grade students chosen because they are respectful, responsible, and resourceful. As positive role models, they work hard and contribute in many positive ways. They help out at school events and fund raisers, as well as community outreach projects. The Pomperaug Pals are extremely helpful to our school and our community.
We want every student to have an enjoyable and successful experience in school. We work together with parents, as well as staff and the students themselves, to provide what we can for our students’ success.
