RMS Band Program

Because evidence continues to focus on the arts (music) as a vital component in the positive growth of every child, Rochambeau Middle School provides an opportunity for every child to experience a quality band program.  Grade 6, 7 and 8 band students participate in a sequential-learning curriculum integrating music theory, history and improvisation while continuing growth with their chosen band instrument. 

The full 6th grade band rehearses weekly.  6th grade band students also experience a sectional rehearsal and a small group lesson weekly.  7th and 8th grade band students experience two full band rehearsals and a sectional rehearsal weekly.  All band students present programs of appropriate concert band music in the winter and spring.  8th grade band students also have the experience of combining talents with the Pomperaug High School band in an annual band festival.

Jazz Ensemble

The RMS Express Jazz Ensemble is an audition-based performing group available to all band students.  The jazz ensemble curriculum provides a comprehensive course of study through sequential development of rhythm and improvisational skills, as well as a stylistic and historical understanding of jazz.  The jazz ensemble also performs in winter and spring concerts.

Tri-M Music Honor Society

Rochambeau Middle School is a participating member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, an international honor society sponsored by the Music Educator’s National Conference (MENC).  Membership is based on merit.  Ability and scholarship in both music and academics, cooperation with teachers and fellow students, leadership, and service are basic requirements.  Honorary membership is awarded by the chapter advisor in recognition of achievement and/or outstanding service rendered during an April induction ceremony.
