ANNUAL “TOWN TALK” MEETING TO BE HELD AT POMPERAUG HIGH SCHOOL

Region 15 Superintendent Hosts Informal Community Conversation

For the third year in a row, Region 15 school superintendent Dr. Frank Sippy will host a forum for residents of Middlebury and Southbury to talk about the Board of Education’s proposed 2007-2008 school budget.  The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 25th at the Pomperaug High School All-Purpose Room at 7:00 p.m.

“Some citizens have expressed that they’d like to be able to ask questions about the budget without the pressure of being on television,” said Dr. Sippy, alluding to the televised Board of Education meetings. “I agree that there’s nothing quite like a face-to-face conversation and I want to make myself available to residents who may want clarification about something proposed in the budget.”

Since January, Dr. Sippy has been meeting with members of the communities, Parent-Teacher Organizations, and town government officials, to discuss the school budget and openly answer questions.

A referendum vote on the proposed Region 15 2007-2008 education budget will be held on May 2, 2007. The budget proposal is intended, as Dr. Sippy contends, to improve both instruction and learning environments. The budget is a 4.75 percent increase from last year; 0.09 percent of which is new debt service, a line item that all regional school districts must include in their operating budget.

“We, in Region 15, will always practice fiscal responsibility,” said Dr. Sippy. “I sincerely welcome any concerned parent, citizen, and taxpayer to come to the Town Talk to sit down with me to see how we’re making fiscally sound decisions while meeting our obligation to students for a quality education.”
