POMPERAUG HIGH SCHOOL TRI-M MUSIC
HONOR SOCIETY RAISES FUNDS FOR PARKINSON RESEARCH
The Pomperaug High School (PHS) Tri-M Music Honor Society is
hosting a Play-a-Thon on Friday, October 19, 2007 from 6:00
pm to 9:00 pm at the school.
Tri-M is an international music honor society,
sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference to
recognize music students for their musical ability, academic
excellence, school involvement, and community service.
In order to become a member, students must receive an
“A” in their music courses and a “B” average in their other
academic courses. They also are required to do community
service each year. The PHS Tri-M advisors are Christian
Banach, Bob D’Angelo and Linda Hughes.
While the Play-a-Thon is not a concert, students will
be performing in some sectionals from the school’s large
ensembles. In addition, some students will be practicing for
their upcoming CMEA Regional auditions. The pledge is $10.00
per half hour of music. Each student will have a different
amount of time they need to spend performing in order to
fulfill his or her obligation.
Pomperaug High School has raised over $1500.00 for
Parkinson research and specifically for the Institute for
Neurodegenerative Disorders in New Haven

(203/401-4300). Five or six years ago, Mr. Zwickler, a
close friend of Bob D’Angelo, organized an annual walk to
raise money for Parkinson research. The Sixth Annual
Parkinson Research Walk was held on October 7th
in Fairfield, Connecticut and over $25,000 was raised.
“The students are doing the Play-a-Thon for him and will be
adding what they raise to the totals from his walk,” said
Mr. D’Angelo. “Howard was so touched that we were doing
this and he wanted to come and thank the kids in person.”
All
the students are looking forward to meeting him this Friday
at the Play-a-Thon.
