Congratulations to “Book Besties” from Gainfield Elementary School (GES), this year’s district winners in the 10th annual Region 15 Nutmeg Book Bowl competition. Members of the winning GES team are Charlotte Satterlee (Team Captain), Corinne Vas, and Katherine Blackwell.

 Winning teams representing Region 15’s four elementary schools competed against each other to answer questions about the ten 2024 Intermediate Nutmeg Book Award nominees. 

“It was like amazing and nerve-racking,” shared Charlotte, team captain of the Book Besties.

“The four school championship teams competed with poise and confidence. We would like to thank PHS for hosting our District Book Bowl as well as our principals, fifth-grade teachers, and all of the families, classmates, and friends for their involvement and support. The Book Bowl is a wonderful district-wide celebration of reading award-nominated literature,” shared Christina O’Neill, Library Media Specialist at Long Meadow Elementary School.

This event is a collaboration among the four Region 15 elementary school library media Specialists Christina O’Neill (Long Meadow Elementary School), Stephanie Robinson (Middlebury Elementary School), Kristyn Mastropietro (Pomperaug Elementary School) and Michelle Schwenger (Gainfield Elementary School); the Nutmeg Book Award Committee comprised of librarians, teachers and students; library paraprofessionals, Principals, Fifth Grade teachers and staff members, and families at each of Region 15’s elementary Schools.

Teams from the other three elementary schools were:  Eva Tsetsos, Eliana Carvalho (team Captian), and Adri Carballo representing the  “Happy Peeps” from Long Meadow Elementary School; Drew Mariani (Team Captain), Isaac Booth, Bear Lewis, and Joey Taylor-Cheris representing “The Four Man Army” from Pomperaug Elementary School; and  Fenn Nuzzo, Jimmi Clarke, Payton Tylinski (Team Captain), Ella Mancini, and Callie Hubbard representing “The Amazing Axolotls” from Middlebury Elementary School.
