Congratulations to William Bradshaw, Daniel Flanagan, Svetlana Golovneva, Amelie Jose, Jack Lynch, Somya Nog, Taylan Uludag and Shannon White!
A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) which conducts the program, was presented to these scholastically talented seniors during the Board of Education meeting on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Approximately 36,000 Commended Students throughout the nation were recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although these students will not continue in the 2025 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).
"It is an honor to recognize our high school students as National Merit Commended Scholars. We are grateful for the hard work you put in and for the dedication of our educators who support you. Thank you to the Board of Education for fostering an environment where our students can thrive. To our families, we take pride in your children and appreciate your trust and unwavering support. Together, we value the partnership that shapes our students’ education," said Joshua Smith, Region 15 Superintendent.
"We are grateful for our community's support for education and are proud to have these students representing Pomperaug High School. We have every confidence that they will continue to excel. We commend their hard work and look forward to celebrating their achievements with both our school and community," said Dr. Paul Jones, Principal of Pomperaug High School.
"Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success," commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success."
