Our best wishes to our Retirees!

Region 15 recognized retirees at the Board of Education meeting on June 10th, 2024. Twelve retirees were announced effective at the close of the 2023-24 school year.

Together, the retirees represent a collective 317 years of work in Region 15.

Sheila Burke, will be retiring as a Grade 2 teacher at Long Meadow Elementary School after 25 years of teaching service in Region 15. Mrs. Burke was hired in 1999 as a Grade 1 Teacher at Long Meadow Elementary School (LMES). Before being hired at Region 15, she taught in New Milford Public Schools for 11 years. Mrs. Burke served as Region 15’s Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year.

Margaret “Margie” Iaiennaro is retiring as a Health Teacher at Rochambeau Middle School (RMS) and the Elementary Schools after 18 years of teaching service in Region 15. Mrs. Iaiennaro was hired in 2006 as a Science Teacher at RMS. In 2017 she began teaching Health. Before being hired as a teacher, she was a SIP Tutor & Enrichment Instructor for Region 15. Before coming to Region 15, she was a Science, Health, and Talented & Gifted Teacher in Prospect Public Schools.

Karen Kleinschmidt is retiring as a Math Teacher at Pomperaug High School (PHS) after 22 years in Region 15. Mrs. Kleinschmidt was first hired in 2002 as a Math Teacher at RMS and transferred to PHS in 2005 where she has been since.  She also served as a Cross Country Coach at PHS. Before Region 15, she taught in Middletown and Region 14 Public Schools. 

Melodie McVerry is retiring as a Physical Education teacher at LMES with over 45 years of teaching service in Region 15. Originally hired in 1979 as a long-term substitute Physical Education Teacher at Mary I Johnson, Shepardson, and Pomperaug Elementary Schools, her position became permanent soon after and she has since worked at Middlebury Elementary School (MES) and LMES where she has been for the majority of her time in Region 15. 

Pam Curley is retiring as Student Services Secretary at Central Office after 22 years in Region 15. She started in 1997 as a part-time paraprofessional at Pomperaug Elementary School (PES) and transferred to full-time in 2004 where she worked at PES and MMS.  She transferred to the Student Services Department at Central Office as a Secretary in 2011.

Denise Wells is retiring as Guidance Office secretary at PHS after 23 years in Region 15. She was originally hired in 2001 as a part-time Guidance Secretary at PHS and became full-time in 2013. 

Elizabeth Burr is retiring as a Grade 2 teacher at LMES after 18 years of teaching service in Region 15. She was originally hired in 2006 as a Grade 2 Teacher at LMES where she has spent her entire career. Before being hired in Region 15, she taught briefly in New Milford Public Schools (1.5 yrs).

Cynthia Flisher is retiring as a Grade 4 teacher at Middlebury Elementary School after 24 years of teaching service in Region 15. She was hired in 2000 as a Grade 4 Teacher at Gainfield Elementary School (GES) and transferred to MES in 2001 where she has spent the remainder of her career. 

Tracy Kirk is retiring as a Speech & Language Pathologist at PES after  29 Years in Region 15. She was hired in 1995 as a Speech & Language Pathologist at PES.

Gail McCleary is retiring as a Speech & Language Pathologist at LMES after 36 Years in Region 15. She was first hired in 1985 as a Speech & Language Pathologist. During her time here she has worked at all 4 elementary schools with the most recent being LMES. 

Ellen Shugrue is retiring as a Grade 1 teacher at MES after 20 years in Region 15. She was first hired in 2004 as a Grade 4 Teacher at MES. Before becoming a member of the certified staff, she also served in Region 15 as a SIP Tutor at MES and a long-term substitute at PES.

Robyn McMahon is retiring as a Special Education Paraprofessional at PHS after 35 years in Region 15. First hired in 1989 as a part-time aide at PES, she became full-time in 1993.  Throughout her time here, she has also worked at RMS and PHS.
