Pomperaug High School students were recognized as National Merit Commended students at the Region 15 Board of Education meeting on Monday, October 24th, 2022.

Aliza Creel, Steven Filippelli, Lauren Grant, Kanishq Kancharla, Samarth Keerthivasan and Austin Zold, were recognized as National Merit Commended students in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. A Letter of Commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program was presented by PHS Principal, Dr. Paul Jones and Mr. Joshua Smith, Superintendent of Region15 Schools to these scholastically talented seniors.

Approximately 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 (the top 1% internationally) of students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

 “Thank you for representing yourself, your family and Region 15 well,” shared Smith.  Dr. Jones added “we are proud of all the achievements that these students have made to our school community and look forward to celebrating them more as we go through their Senior year.  We know that they will continue to excel at whatever their future journey may take them.”
