PHS) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its Math Team at the Connecticut State Association of Math League’s (CSAML) State Math Match, held on March 31, 2026.

After a rigorous regular season in the Greater New Haven Math League (GNHML)—where they secured a fifth-place finish out of sixteen schools—the team carried their momentum into the state competition. Competing in the Class M division, Pomperaug earned an impressive fourth-place finish among eleven of the top medium-sized schools in Connecticut.

The following students represented PHS at the state level, facing off against the brightest quantitative minds in the state:

• Competing Members: Naser Chaudhry, Ishaan Nalla, Sohan Nelakudity, and Katherine Salsbury

A Growing Legacy

Under the leadership of coach and parent volunteer Mr. Joseph Salsbury, the program has seen a remarkable resurgence in just two years. The team has nearly tripled in size, boasting nearly twenty dedicated members this season.

“Significant progress has been made in the PHS Math Team in only our second year since restarting this group. We improved our regular season performance by 16% and, for the second consecutive year, qualified for the state competition. At the state level, we raised our performance significantly, finishing as the top-scoring Class M school from our regional division. Coach Salsbury also extended a special thank you to graduating senior Sohan Nelakudity for his vital role in rebuilding the program over the last two years.
