On Wednesday morning, March 5, 2025, the PHS Gym was filled with excitement as seniors presented their Senior Year Experience (SYE) projects—a culmination of their passions, creativity, and hard work.
The SYE project is a capstone-type project that allows high school seniors to explore a topic of personal interest in a meaningful way. It is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their skills, pursue passions, engage in hands-on learning, and prepare for life beyond high school.
SYE projects can take many forms, such as:
✅ Research projects on a subject of interest
✅ Community service initiatives
✅ Creative endeavors like writing, filmmaking, or music
✅ Engineering and problem-solving challenges
✅ Internships or job shadowing experiences
✅ Personal explorations, such as studying film ratings or cultural trends
The goal of an SYE project is to encourage self-directed learning, critical thinking, and personal growth. Students take the lead in shaping their projects and presented their work to classmates, teachers, Board of Education members, and administrators.
The wide range of topics on display reflected the diverse interests of the PHS Class of 2025. Below is a sample of the projects shared and included: How the teachings of Irish dance preserve Irish heritage, culture, and traditions; Preserving Heritage Sites during Wartime; The Business of Data; The collaboration between architecture and construction management; Assessing the Feasibility and perceptions of vertical farming systems in educational institutions; A day in the life of an electrician; Exploring the world of robotics; How can we promote water safety to prevent drownings; What are the key aspects that go into being a successful business (restaurant) owner
It was a great way for seniors to make the most of their final high school days while preparing for college, careers, or other future pursuits!
