Region 15 officially kicked off the 2026–27 school year on Thursday, August 27th, by bringing staff from across the district together for the annual Opening Day Convocation, a celebration of the people, partnerships, and shared purpose that make our schools strong.

The morning offered an opportunity to welcome new colleagues, recognize longtime staff members, celebrate excellence, and begin the year together as one Region 15 team.

Region 15 Paraeducator of the Year Lisa Roshkind helped lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Region 15 Teacher of the Year Susan Sundholm shared an inspiring message with her colleagues as they prepared for the year ahead, "“We have the chance to change the trajectory of a child’s day and sometimes a child’s life. As we begin another school year, I hope we remember that every child may need something different: a little more time, a different approach, a greater challenge, or simply someone to believe in them until they are ready to believe in themselves.”

Student performers also took the stage, bringing student voices to a morning centered on the work we do together on their behalf.

The district welcomed and recognized our new certified and non-certified staff members and celebrated employees marking an impressive 20 years of service to Region 15. These recognitions highlighted the range of experience, talent, and dedication our staff bring to students and schools each day.

The morning wrapped up with plenty of Region 15 spirit as all seven school mascots  joined Superintendent Joshua Smith on stage, representing each of our school communities and rallying staff for the year ahead. It was a fitting close to a morning focused on what brings us together - celebrating our people, reconnecting around our shared purpose, and recognizing the many roles that contribute to the success of our students.
