Region 15 Public Schools is proud to recognize the extraordinary service of eight staff members who are retiring in June 2025. These individuals have made a lasting impact on the Middlebury and Southbury communities, collectively contributing more than 215 years to the education and support of our students.

This year's retirees include both certified and non-certified staff members, whose work in classrooms, libraries, custodial services, and more has helped shape generations of learners.

Pomperaug High School

• Robert Coghlan, Special Education Teacher – 24 years

• Margaret Griffin, World Language Teacher – 38 years

• Patricia Mete, Math Teacher – 25 years

• Edward Nyerick, Science Teacher – 20 years

Rochambeau Middle School

• Gregory Kunz, Technology Education Teacher – 26 years

• Thomas Woodin, Custodian I – 43 years

Middlebury Elementary School

• Patricia Wengler, Grade 4 Teacher – 20 years

Pomperaug Elementary School

• Constance Yacavone, Library Technology Assistant – 19 years

Superintendent of Schools Joshua Smith shared his gratitude, stating:

“Each of our retirees has contributed immeasurably to the growth, well-being, and success of our students. Their passion, professionalism, and dedication have left a lasting impact across classrooms, school buildings, and beyond. We thank them for their many years of service and wish them all the best in this next chapter.”
