The 11th Annual Region 15 Nutmeg Book Bowl recently took place at Gainfield Elementary School, bringing together winning teams from the district’s four elementary schools for an exciting competition. Students answered questions about the 2025 Intermediate Nutmeg Book Award nominees, showcasing their literary knowledge and teamwork.

This year’s district champions are the “Super Yoshi Readers” from Pomperaug Elementary School!

Congratulations to team members Dylan Roach (Captain), Eleanor Kim, Isabella Webber, Molly Romineicki, and Alice Bidwell for their impressive performance. As winners, PES will proudly display the trophy until next year’s competition.

“The four championship teams competed with confidence and composure, making for an exciting and inspiring event,” shared Stephanie Robinson, Library Media Specialist at Middlebury Elementary School. “We are grateful to our principals, fifth-grade teachers, and the families, classmates, and friends who contributed to its success. The Book Bowl is a fantastic district-wide celebration of award-nominated literature, bringing our community together in a shared love of reading.”

This annual event is a collaborative effort among Region 15’s elementary school library media specialists: Christina O’Neill (Long Meadow Elementary School), Stephanie Robinson (Middlebury Elementary School), Kristyn Mastropietro (Pomperaug Elementary School), Michelle Schwenger (Gainfield Elementary School).

Additionally, the Nutmeg Book Award Committee, school principals, fifth-grade teachers, staff members, and families all play an essential role in making the competition a success.
