Equity and Inclusion

Originally formed during the 2017-18 school year as the Region 15 Advisory Committee on Global Citizenship and Character, a representative group of district administrators, teachers, staff members, students, parents and family members, including facilitators from Cooperative Educational Services, who worked to identify and act on how Region 15 can increasingly provide for an effective and more deliberate approach to global-citizenship and character education.  Three goals surrounding diversity guided this work.  The committee focused on the ways in which the learner expectations of global citizenship and character education recognized that our world is increasingly interdependent, includes diverse identities and cultures, and that our choices may impact individuals and communities locally, nationally and internationally.

In October, 2020, the name was changed to Middlebury and Southbury Equity & Inclusion Council - recognizing the expansion of the committee to involve multiple members and organizations of the local community and the need for equity and inclusion to be a community-wide focus.
